Changing TimesChanging Times
We've all experienced times in our lives when everything goes according to plan. Maybe this blissful state of mind lasts for days, weeks, months or even years, but, there we find ourselves in the place where we most want to be.

Yet, change is inevitable. Sometimes it comes into our lives quietly and slowly, sometimes without a moment's notice. Maybe we've taken the initiative to bring it about or maybe it arrives unannounced and not entirely welcome.

Change is all around us here in Sarasota. This year's high school graduates prepare for college. Brides and grooms exchange vows to love one another forever. Families unpack and settle into new homes. Parents become grandparents. We all feel the inevitable tick-tock of days beginning and ending.

Whatever the circumstances that bring about change in our lives we believe that in the midst of uncertainty we've been given an opportunity to grow and become the people we're meant to be. Yes, it seems everything's going according to plan.

DendrobiumsDaydreaming About Dendrobiums
Conjure up visions of a shady retreat by surrounding yourself with in bloom dendrobium orchids in the coolest hues of pale green and white. Beautiful blossoms combine this refreshing color duo in an alternating striped pattern reminiscent of a delicately painted parasol.

Hot daytime temperatures up to 100 F with cooler conditions at night, high humidity (when indoors place in trays over moistened pebbles), circulating air, bright sunlight (east, west or shaded southern exposure) and regular waterings while blooming are the perfect conditions to keep your lovely dendrobiums healthy and thriving.

Our Tip: Like you, your orchids and plants need more water during hot summer days. Check your orchid's potting medium often and hydrate as needed. The next time you purchase an orchid or plant from Awesome Orchids, take home one of our Care Sheets. Each easy-to-read informational sheet provides specific instructions for you to enjoy longer-lasting, healthier orchids and plants.

Birdhouses of ParadiseBirdhouses of Paradise
If we were birds, we would build a thatched roof house for ourselves just like those hanging from our shop's apothecary chest drawers and resting atop our ceramic side tables. Cozy and comfortable for nesting under a shaded canopy, we'd spend our days roosting close to home.

We were taken with these whimsical bird houses the moment we set eyes on them. Hand-woven with grass, they remind us of hand-crafted cottages once found on South Sea Island beaches. Prominently display several by your front door to welcome guests as they arrive, add one to your table's center for a fun conversation starter or scatter them throughout your home to remind you that friends, feathered and otherwise, are never far from you.

In Bloom GiveawayIn Bloom Give-away
This month, our randomly selected In Bloom winner will take home a tillandsia, commonly known as an air plant.

Tillandsias, part of the bromeliad family, require minimum care—going one month or longer in your home with no water and little light. These captivating soil-averse plants thrive in shells, stone, even driftwood and look great atop ceramic planters (see our tiki planter above) or our decorative wall plaques. This month's In Bloom Give-away winner is Annie. Check your email later today, Annie, for details on selecting and picking up your tillandsia from our shop.

Not our give-away winner? You'll hit the jackpot one day soon. But, until you're holding four aces, stop by our shop or visit us at the Downtown Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings to see what's new and blooming.
