UnexpectedThe Art of Living
Sometimes, we have to admit, our best laid plans can simply go astray. We’re going to let you in on a secret: we spend days, weeks, sometimes even months, with visions of seasonal shop displays planned out in our heads.

Arranged and then rearranged in our minds’ eye, orchids, plants and pots are assigned their nesting spaces. On open shelves, vintage wire stands or in our sweet Bella Room, there is a perfect resting place for everything.

Then, real life may intervene. Our rosy dreams were recently dashed when expected orders never arrived. Moments of dismay soon gave way to a most inspired collaboration. Never before considered color palettes, including seafoam and celadon, honey and ochre and ivory and bone, ready to perk up any room in your home, deliver snappy and unexpected freshness.

From this surprising journey of twists and turns, we’ll share one more secret: be flexible and open to what comes your way. For, like us, you may find that what you end up with is exactly what you’ve needed all along.

The Team at Awesome Orchids

Colorful Phals Are HereColorful Phals Are Here
February may be short on daylight but it’s bursting with colorful inspiration. Locally grown Phals are now in season and in full bloom. With their double flowers, long sprays and oh, so many color choices, these Phals are both pretty and full of poise.

Like a bowl of Florida sunshine—raspberry red, apricot and lemon yellow Phals are mixing it up with their more subdued white and soft blush color cousins on our tables and shelves. Once you’ve selected your favorite hues, mixing solid, spotted and striped patterns, pick the perfect pots or containers (a few ideas are below) that suit your home’s beach-vibe casual, modern fairy tale or sophisticated glamour style.

Yes, it’s time! Stop by our shop or downtown farmers’ market stand on Saturdays (extended hours during season from 7am to 1pm) to be inspired and celebrate brighter days ahead.

Organic Looks Add Flair
Organic Organic Organic
Make a personal statement with flair this spring. Embrace seaside living with relaxed shapes and muted sand and sea colors that are found all around you in nature. Combine in bloom Phals with containers in organic shapes like flared, scallop and our increasingly popular tulip and sculptural driftwood designs. Then, have fun mixing in geometric square, rectangle and cylinder pots for balance. Don’t be afraid to shake things up, try new combinations and add eclectic pieces that you love for, as we all know, that’s what makes a house your home.

For a place that feels sophisticated, yet a little bit eccentric, bring together textures like those found in natural driftwood with glazed ceramics that shine. Our new koi fish ginger jars and garden stools create a fresh, organic feel that fits in perfectly with a by the bay style that so many of us crave in our contemporary, cottage or traditional homes.

Our tip: Eve suggests that to spice up a coastal palette of quiet ivory and seafoam add shades of honey, mustard and ochre to the mix. These confident golden yellows update the décor by providing surprising richness and depth.

Awesome OrchidsMapping It Out
Making your way to Awesome Orchids may be a bit more difficult right now, but, loyal customers and friends are still filling our shop and we are so grateful to you all.

Ringling Boulevard is currently closed between Palm and Orange Avenues, making us a little disconnected, in a roundabout way, from downtown.

You’ll find no detours if you are coming from the south. If, however, you are heading here from Longboat, Lido, or the downtown Sarasota area, travel on Route 41 past Ringling. Turn left (north) at the Orange Av stop light, then veer left on Pineapple Av, continuing on toward the road closed signs. We are right there with lots of reserved parking spaces waiting for you.

Our travel tip: If you are downtown, find your way to Orange Av, go south past Ringling and then turn right at any of the big blue signs directing you to the Burns Square Merchant Area where our shop is located. It gets easier and less confusing with each trip. Rumor has it that roadwork will result in two beautiful roundabouts and new parking on Ringling—just in time for end of season.

Favorite Sayings
It’s become our favorite saying. This year, we’re not going to sweat the small stuff. Mistakes happen, lists get lost, In Bloom deadlines come and go (farewell to January and that month’s missing issue); but, all is forgiven. We’ll learn from our mistakes, make lemonade from lemons and smile when life has other plans for us.
